Brazilian Jazz

Every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday throughout the Winter, the Home Smith Bar at the Old Mill Toronto showcases some of the most important instrumentalists and leading vocalists on today’s jazz scene in the cozy intimacy of one of Toronto’s best-loved lounges.

Sensational Brazilian singer/songwriter LUANDA JONES has been captivating audiences for more than a decade with her unique blend of suave, jazz inflected vocals, and stylized guitar harmonies, passionately interpreting some of the South American nation’s most cherished popular musical traditions.  Drawing from the effervescent wellspring of Brazil’s diverse MPB (Brazilian Pop Music ) genre, Luanda colors the expansive, sonic shades of her revered influences with an unforgettable vocal charm and entrancing onstage personality.

This evening’s stellar Quartet is under the musical direction of piano giant and acclaimed Brazilian music authority, GORD SHEARD.  Bass master GEORGE KOLLER and celebrated drummer MARK KELSO complete the sizzling ensemble, entertaining amid the up-close-and-personal ambience of the Home Smith Bar.
